Maybe it started with a back tooth that cracked beyond repair, or a front tooth lost years ago that you have been covering with a removable appliance ever since. Perhaps you wear a full denture that shifts when you eat and makes you think twice before ordering certain foods. These are the everyday situations where dental implants can make a real difference. At Valley Dental Care in Mayfield, we help patients from Gloversville, Amsterdam, Broadalbin, Northville, Speculator, and the surrounding communities explore whether implants are the right way to restore their smiles.

A dental implant replaces the root of a missing tooth. Once the implant is in place and has had time to settle into the jaw, it serves as a stable foundation for a replacement tooth. Because the restoration is anchored below the gumline rather than resting on top of it, it is designed to look and function much like a natural tooth.

Implants are versatile, which is why they help such a wide range of patients. A single implant topped with a crown can fill one gap without involving the neighboring teeth. When several teeth in a row are missing, implants can support a fixed implant-supported bridge. For patients missing most or all of their teeth, a small number of implants can anchor implant-supported dentures, which are far more secure than a denture held by suction alone. Some of the situations we see most often include:

  • A single tooth lost to decay, a crack, or an injury
  • Several neighboring teeth missing in one area of the mouth
  • A loose or uncomfortable denture that needs more stability
  • A tooth that must be removed and replaced with a long-term solution

Because we have an on-site dental lab, we can coordinate the restorations that sit on top of your implants closely with our own team. That helps us pay careful attention to the shape, shade, and fit of your new teeth.

Not everyone is an implant candidate right away, and that is perfectly normal. The health of your gums and the supporting structures of your mouth plays an important role. If we find signs of gum disease during your exam, we may recommend treatment first, such as scaling and root planing or other gum disease care, so your implant has a healthy environment to begin in.

During your consultation, Dr. Gregory Liberatore or Dr. Jonathan Montag will examine your mouth, talk with you about your health history, and listen to your goals. Some patients want to replace a single tooth; others are ready to rethink their entire smile. We will explain your options honestly, including alternatives such as conventional bridges or complete and partial dentures, so you can make an informed decision. If a damaged tooth needs to come out first, we can talk through how that fits into your overall plan. Patients who already wear dentures are welcome to ask whether converting to an implant-supported design makes sense for them.

Caring for Your Implants and Enjoying the Results

An implant cannot develop a cavity, but the gums and tissue around it still need daily attention. We recommend brushing and flossing around your implant restorations just as you would your natural teeth, along with keeping up with regular cleanings and exams. Healthy gums help support your implant over the long term.

Our team provides implant maintenance as part of our periodontal care, and our dental hygienist will show you techniques and tools that make cleaning around implants easier. These visits also give us the chance to check the fit of your crown, bridge, or denture and address small issues before they become bigger ones.

Patients often tell us the biggest change is simply not having to think about their teeth. A restoration that stays put can make eating, speaking, and smiling feel natural again. Your individual experience will depend on your oral health and how well you care for your implants, and we will be with you at every follow-up to help.

Paying for Your Implant Treatment

We are an out-of-network office, which means we do not participate directly with insurance plans. However, we gladly file claims on your behalf so you can use any out-of-network benefits your plan provides. We also welcome self-pay patients and are happy to review your treatment plan and estimated costs before you begin.

For patients who prefer to spread out payments, we accept CareCredit financing. Our front office team can answer your questions about the application and help you find an approach that fits your budget.
