Why choose us

Benefits of Periodontal Maintenance

Keeps Gum Disease Controlled

Regular maintenance visits help us keep gum disease from progressing after your initial treatment.

Cleaning Below the Gumline

Our dental hygienist carefully removes buildup from the deeper areas that daily brushing and flossing can't reach.

Protects Your Implants Too

We also provide implant maintenance to help keep the gums and tissue around your implants healthy.

No Referral Needed

You can come straight to our office for periodontal care without a referral from another dentist.

Flexible Payment Options

We file claims for your out-of-network benefits, welcome self-pay patients, and offer CareCredit financing.

If you've been treated for gum disease, the work doesn't end when your gums start to feel better. The bacteria behind periodontal disease can settle back into the spaces below the gumline, often without obvious symptoms. That is why we offer periodontal maintenance at our Mayfield office. These ongoing, focused visits help you protect the progress you've made, so you can keep enjoying comfortable chewing, fresher breath, and the teeth you rely on every day.

Periodontal maintenance is a specialized cleaning for patients who have a history of gum disease. A routine dental cleaning focuses mostly on the visible surfaces of the teeth and the area just at the gumline. Periodontal maintenance goes further. Our dental hygienist carefully cleans below the gums, where hardened deposits and bacteria tend to collect in the pockets that gum disease can leave behind. We also check those areas closely, because changes there can signal that the condition is becoming active again.

For many patients, this care comes after scaling and root planing, a deeper treatment we provide to clear infection from root surfaces. Once that initial therapy is complete, periodontal maintenance becomes the long-term plan. Instead of returning to a standard cleaning schedule, you visit us at intervals we tailor to your gum health. This gives us regular chances to address buildup before it causes new problems.

Periodontal maintenance is a good fit for a wide range of people. Some patients have recently completed active gum disease treatment with us. Others are new to our practice and were treated elsewhere. Because our periodontal services accept patients without a referral, you're welcome to contact us directly. We also see patients who have dental implants, since the gum tissue around implants needs attentive care too, and we provide implant maintenance as part of our services.

It helps to tell us about anything you've noticed between visits. Mention any of the following:

  • Gums that bleed when you brush or floss
  • Tenderness, puffiness, or redness along the gumline
  • Persistent bad breath or an unpleasant taste
  • Teeth that feel loose or seem to be shifting
  • Changes in how your bite or dentures fit

Not every patient with a past history of gum disease needs the same approach. Your schedule and the details of each visit depend on how your gums respond over time. Dr. Gregory Liberatore and Dr. Jonathan Montag review your progress and talk with you about what they see. That way you understand why we recommend a particular plan.

Caring for Your Gums Between Visits

What you do at home matters just as much as what we do in the chair. After a maintenance visit, your gums may feel slightly tender for a short while, especially if there was buildup to remove. Gentle, consistent brushing and daily cleaning between your teeth help keep bacteria from settling back into the pockets we've just cleaned. Our team is happy to show you techniques and tools that suit your mouth, whether you have natural teeth, crowns, bridges, implants, or dentures.

Over time, steady maintenance helps us keep a close watch on your gum health and respond early when something changes. These regular visits also give us the opportunity to look at your whole mouth. We can check existing restorations and include an oral cancer evaluation as part of your overall care. If a concern comes up between appointments, we offer emergency dental appointments, so you don't have to wait anxiously for your next scheduled visit.

Payment, Insurance, and Financing

We are an out-of-network office, which means we don't participate directly with insurance plans. We do still file claims on your behalf, so you can use any out-of-network benefits your plan provides. This makes the process simpler for you, and our front office can help answer questions about how your claim is submitted.

We also welcome self-pay patients. For those who'd like to spread out the cost of care, we accept CareCredit financing. Since periodontal maintenance is ongoing, we encourage you to talk with us about your options early. That way you can plan comfortably and stay on track with your visits.
